RB Leipzig showed morale in the Europa League three days after its „embarrassing bankruptcy“. At the end of the 4th matchday, Eintracht Frankfurt lost 1:1 – with five points RB is still far behind their own expectations.

Gelson Fernandes (26.) scored the deserved lead for the hosts, which was equalized after the break by Emil Forsberg (54./Handelfmeter). Particularly in the first half Leipzig presented itself hardly better than with the indiscrutable Europacup appearance against brother club Red Bull Salzburg (2:3) under the week.

43,800 spectators in Frankfurt’s World Cup arena had quickly noticed who had been filling up on self-confidence during the week. Eintracht, who surprisingly won in Marseille, made the more lively and playful impression. The guests, on the other hand, seemed a little inhibited – coach Ralf Rangnick had turned his staff upside down.

Frankfurt's World Cup smarkets

The 60-year-old changed the starting eleven of Leipzig to seven positions. Among others, captain Willi Orban and international Timo Werner were there again, Jean-Kevin Augustin and Nordi Mukiele were not in the squad for disciplinary reasons.

In the club we stand for clear principles and had to react accordingly„, Rangnick had justified his measures before the game at Sky and added: „Maybe some players need a little longer to understand the rules and have to touch the hotplate a little more often„.

Because the appearance of the Leipziger on Sunday despite Rangnicks rotation was everything but warming also after the lag, Frankfurt should have led to the break actually higher. Luka Jovic (28.) and again Fernandes (30.) missed their good chances. On the other side, Werner (43.) had a free header. Rangnick renounced in the break on further changes and bet rather on the strength of the word. The guests were still far away from the turbo football of past times in the second run, but Forsberg rewarded their efforts with a flat in the middle of the goal turned 911 with the equalizer. The Swede almost took the lead a minute later.

In this phase the body language of the players, who had lamented in the first half still much too frequently or had waved off insulted after failed actions, was finally right. One of them was Werner, who missed the lead twice (65./70.).

The Frankfurt hopes in the final phase rested mainly on cup hero Ante Rebic, who was replaced by SGE coach Adi Hütter (70th) and after his foot injury collected the first minutes of the Bundesliga this season.
